Thomas Nelson Community College has long recognized the need to deliver classes and corporate training in the Greater Williamsburg area. The College opened its current facility, in leased buildings in the Busch Corporate Center, in 1999. Space in these facilities limits the programs the College is currently able to offer in the Williamsburg area.
The College had also been working towards obtaining a permanent facility in the area since the mid-90’s. The Virginia legislature approved construction of a new building and the College conducted a ground breaking ceremony, at the site of the new campus next to the Warhill High School, on March 28, 2007. Construction began in November 2007 with completion scheduled for April 2009.
The new building is a 120,000 square foot, three story facility. It will contain 25 classrooms, 7 computer classrooms, 5 science laboratories and a nursing laboratory. It will also include a full Learning Resources Center including a Library, tutor areas and an Academic Computing Laboratory. The facility will also be equipped with administrative space for faculty assigned to the Historic Triangle campus as well as administrative support for the site.
The College will deliver credit and continuing education programs at the new Historic Triangle campus. The College currently delivers transfer degree, nursing and emergency medical technician programs at the Historic Triangle campus. It has added engineering, information systems technology and paralegal studies in 2008 in preparation for opening the new site and continues to evaluate other programs for possible inclusion.
