You must complete all program requirements and elective courses required as specified in the college catalog for that curriculum. The catalog used to determine graduation requirements is the one in effect at the time a student’s acceptance into a curriculum, or any subsequent catalog as selected by the student. However, you may not choose a catalog more than seven years from the date of graduation.
If you have transferred credits from other colleges, make sure that you have completed 25% of your credit hours at TNCC.
You must earn a grade point average of at least 2.0 in your curriculum. Honor eligibility is based on your cumulative grade point average.
If you plan to substitute a course for another course, you will need to complete a course substitution form, which you can get from the Registration and Records Office or from your Academic Division Office.
Graduation Application
You are required to submit an Application for Graduation to the Registration and Records Office by the deadline date for that semester or term. Part of this process involves addressing each curriculum requirement. This could mean completing substitution forms, getting all transfer credits evaluated etc.
- Summer Deadline – June 1st
- Fall Deadline – October 1st
- Spring Deadline – March 1st
Graduation Applications can be picked up in the Registration and Records Office. There is no application fee. If a student files for graduation, but does not graduate, the student must resubmit another graduation application for a later graduation date. Applications may be faxed to the Registration and Records Office at (757) 825-2763 or mailed to Post Office Box 9407, Hampton, VA 23670. Students may also hand deliver to Griffin Hall, Room 206/208.
Each student will receive notification by mail concerning the results of their graduation application in about 10 to 12 weeks.
Distributions of Degrees, Certificates, Diplomas, Career Studies Certificates
In about 10 to 12 weeks after each semester or term ends, the graduate will receive a postcard in the mail notifying them when their degree, certificate, or diploma is ready for pick-up in the Registration and Records Office. All obligations with TNCC must be cleared before picking up degrees, certificates, and diplomas.
Commencement
Thomas Nelson Community College has one formal commencement ceremony in May. The ceremony is held at the Hampton Coliseum. Each summer and fall graduate and spring graduate candidate will receive a notification letter in April concerning information about Commencement, caps & gowns, invitations, and class rings. |
