Online Services: Learning Recourse Center (LRC)
 

The LRC index page http://www.tncc.edu/library/index.htm links students to specific web pages for each of the six LRC service units, which in turn feature additional links to numerous online student resources and support.  These online resources are provided by TNCC LRC staff, by the Virginia Community College System, and by other colleges and universities.  All services listed are always available through the library website unless otherwise noted. 

 Library Online Services:

  • TNCC Catalog –  An index to the books and audiovisual materials in the TNCC library.

  • Electronic Reserves –  Selected class reading materials available full-text through library’s web page.

  • Virtual Library of Virginia (VIVA) –  A collection of almost 200 databases which provides access to 10,000 full-text periodical; 10,000 full-text works of poetry; 750,000 additional full-text materials including statistical report and pamphlets.

  • Live Online Reference (LRC Live) – Sunday 12pm – 8pm; Monday through Thursday 10am – 8pm; Friday 10am – 4 pm.  Online interactive reference help provided by a Virginia Community College librarian.

  • Email a TNCC Librarian (Distance Reference) –  Email sent to the Distance Reference Email box is answered by a TNCC reference librarian.  A response within 24 hours is attempted.  This service is located under our Research Help category of the LRC website.

  • Email a Loan Request (Distance Circulation) --  Allows books to be checked out to a patron and transported to the Williamsburg campus.  A response within 24 hours is attempted.

  • Online Practice Tests (Learning Express Learn-a-Test) --  Provides practice tests such as SAT and Praxis electronically that students can access again and again.

  • Information literacy tutorial (Connect for Success) – Connect for success offers a virtual library tour and information literacy skills for students, such as how to conduct research and evaluate sources.  Students can take a knowledge quiz at the end of each module.

  • Math and Writing Online Services:  Always available through the Math center  and Writing center’s web pages. If you email a question you can typically expect a response within 24 hours.
