Thomas Nelson Community College’s Office of Outreach and Recruitment in conjunction with the Virginia Tech Prep Consortium is giving high school counselors the opportunity to earn a professional development certificate through participation in a one-day workshop. The event which is also open to TNCC counselors is set for Thursday, Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Peninsula Workforce Development Center, 600 Butler Farm Road, Hampton.
The workshop is designed to arm counselors with a wealth of information to strengthen their academic and/or career advisement capabilities, according to the College’s Outreach and Recruitment Director Dr. Crystal Taylor. She said the session will enable counselors to offer a wider array of options to their students who seek assistance making post graduation or career plans. Among topics included in the six-hour session are career pathways, associate degree and other programs offered by TNCC, internships and cooperative education opportunities. Also on the day’s agenda are a working lunch and a field trip to Sentara Hospital.
Spaces are limit, said Dr. Taylor. Those who plan to attend can reserve a space via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 757-825-2905. The Office of Outreach and Recruitment will send registration and confirmation documents via e-mail.
