TNCC Faculty Earns Certified Nurse Educator Credential

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) Nursing Program Coordinator Hannah Anderson has earned a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) credential from the National League for Nursing (NLN). “The CNE credential is a mark of excellence and a commitment to evidence-based practice and lifelong learning in nursing education. I am honored to stand amongst the ranks of nurse educators across the country who have elected to earn this designation. It demonstrates our commitment to the advancement of the nursing profession and to its future which lies in our students’ hands,” said Anderson.

NLN promotes excellence in Nursing Education by providing faculty development, networking opportunities, testing and assessment, Nursing research grants, and public policy initiatives to its 28,000 individual and 1,200 institutional members.The program has certified 1,993 Nursing educators from throughout the nation and the U.S. Virgin Islands since 2005, according to Dr. Beverly Malone, CEO of NLN. “Through the certification program, we have made clear to the ranks of higher education that the role of nurse educator is an advanced professional practice discipline with demonstrable standards of excellence,” said Malone.

TNCC Student Named Among Community College Legacy Scholars Statewide

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) student Christopher Duke was among students statewide chosen as 2011 Commonwealth Legacy Scholars. Representing Virginia’s 23 community colleges, Commonwealth Legacy Scholars received scholarships of up to $3,500 for the 2011-2012 school year. The students were honored during a Virginia Foundation for Community College Education (VFCCE) luncheon in Charlottesville in mid-November.

“These outstanding students are Virginia’s future leaders. They represent the potential in all of our youth, and the difference that we each can make in the world,” said Glenn DuBois, Chancellor of Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS).

TNCC Faculty Named Among Virginia’s 40 Under 40 Future Nursing Leaders

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) Nursing Program Coordinator Hannah Anderson has been selected among the Virginia Nurses Foundation’s (VNF) 40 Under 40 future nursing leaders. Honorees will be recognized on Saturday, September 24 during VNF’s Fourth Annual Gala at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond.

The award recognizes registered nurses throughout Virginia under age 40 for their vision and leadership, innovation and achievement, growth and development and other criteria.

TNCC Student Named Among Community College Legacy Scholars Statewide

Representing Virginia’s 23 community colleges, the students will receive scholarships of up to $3,500 for the 2011-2012 school year. The Legacy Scholars will be honored in November during a Virginia Foundation for Community College Education (VFCCE) luncheon in Charlottesville.

The Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship Program was established in 2006 through the generosity of VFCCE donors to recognize students who demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to developing their leadership skills during high school, according to Dr. Glenn DuBois, Chancellor of Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS). Each scholarship bears the name of individual philanthropy leaders who support VCCS schools.

TNCC Dean Honored at National Conference for Technology Education Professionals

Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) Dean of Science, Engineering and Allied Health Patricia Taylor received an Innovative Program Award during the High Impact Technology Exchange (HI-TEC) Conference held July 27-28 in San Francisco. She received the award along with Stewart Harris Jr., NASA Langley Research Center’s Deputy Director for Technical Services, Engineering Directorate. The pair also conducted a presentation about TNCC’s and NASA’s partnership during the two-day conference.

The award recognizes teams of advanced technology education professionals who have designed and implemented significant innovations that have led to a positive impact on student enrollment, retention and/or advanced technology education, according to HI-TEC. “It is a privilege to represent the team of TNCC faculty and NASA technicians and engineers who mentor students throughout their college experience and prepare them for the SpaceTEC certification exam and careers at NASA Langley,” said Taylor.
