Thomas Nelson Community College will offer services during Spring Break (March 3-March 9 2014) from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. only. No evening services will be available during that time. The College will resume normal day and evening hours beginning March 10, 2014. Please check the website for hours for individual offices and departments. Have a fabulous and safe Spring Break!

Thomas Nelson Closed to the Public Wednesday, March 5

Thomas Nelson Community College campuses in Hampton and the Historic Triangle in Williamsburg will be closed to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5. College personnel will be engaged in a series of workshops and training sessions at the Hampton campus.

Bookstores on both campuses will be open.

Services including registration, fee and tuition payment for Thomas Nelson’s second eight-week class session will be available online at www.tncc.edu.

The College will reopen at 8 a.m. on Thursday, March 6. Classes will resume on Monday, March 10.


Thomas Nelson CC to Test Emergency Alert System March 5

Thomas Nelson Community College will test its emergency alert system on Wednesday, March 5 at campuses in Hampton and Williamsburg from 9 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m. Those on and near the campuses can expect to hear tones and voice messages sounding from the College’s mass notification towers during the drill.

The College will test all components of its emergency alert system including campus-wide faculty and staff email; visual and audio warnings on campus telephones; and e2Campus alerts. Used by roughly 650 campuses nationwide, e2Campus is an emergency notification system that enables the transmission of instant alerts to cell phones, land lines and other devices.

College officials coordinated with emergency managers in Hampton and Williamsburg in scheduling the tests.

Thomas Nelson Community College’s Board to Meet Feb. 26

The Thomas Nelson Community College Board will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 5:45 p.m. at the Historic Triangle campus, Williamsburg, in the President’s Conference Room 317G.

Earlier at 5 p.m., the Board’s Financial and Municipal Liaison Committee will convene in Conference Room 316 and the Curriculum, Instruction, and Student Services Committee in Conference Room 320.

The Board will meet in closed sessions in accordance with Section 2.2-3711-10 of the Code of Virginia to discuss the consideration of honorary degrees or special awards and specific college personnel matters.  The general Board meeting is open to the public in accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.

Thomas Nelson’s Black History Month Events to Feature Actress Jasmime Guy , Feb. 28

Thomas Nelson Community College welcomes actress Jasmine Guy of the hit television show, “A Different World” and Showtime’s “Dead Like Me,” to its Hampton campus Friday, Feb. 28 to close a series of Black History Month events. At 5 p.m., Guy will meet and greet the public during a Black History Month Expo in the Wythe Hall Gallery. The event will also feature jazz harmonica player Avon Dews along with author and artist Synthia Saint James. Available online at www.tncc.edu, tickets are $10.

The Expo will allow attendees to connect with representatives from more than 30 businesses, colleges and civic organizations including Hampton University, Urban League of Hampton Roads, Uplifting and Empowerment Foundation/GYG Mental Health Agency, Norfolk State University, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (Gamma Upsilon Omega chapter), Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. (Alpha Alpha chapter), and more.

At 7 p.m., Guy, Dews and James will be guest speakers during a free event called “Scroll It!,” in the Dr. T. Christian Auditorium in Templin Hall. The event will also include performances by several Thomas Nelson students.


Thomas Nelson Celebrates Black History Month with a Slate of Activities

Thomas Nelson Community College will observe Black History Month with a series of presentations and activities. Themed, “The Art of Storytelling,” the observance will conclude on Friday, Feb. 28 with a Black History Expo at 5 p.m. in Griffin and Wythe halls featuring special guests, actress Jasmine Guy of the hit television series “A Different World” along with author and artist Dr. Synthia Saint James and jazz harmonica player Avon Dews. Later at 7 p.m., the trio will speak at the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium, Templin Hall. The College’s Black History Month schedule is as follows:
