Student-Juried Art Exhibition Awards Reception & Film Festival

​Thomas Nelson’s Visual Arts Department is showcasing student talent during its Annual Student-Juried Art Exhibition through Thursday, April 17 on the Hampton campus in the Dr.  Mary T. Christian Auditorium (MTCA), Templin Hall. Free and open to the public, the exhibit features 2D, 3D and multimedia pieces.

An Awards Reception takes place on Wednesday, April 16 at 6 p.m. followed by a Student Film Festival at 7 p.m. The free festival will include a diverse lineup of entries, including commercials, music videos and public service announcements. Motion graphic works, including animation, typography in motion and network logo pieces will also be featured.

“Our jury will be awarding $400 in prizes to [student artists in] certain categories:  fine art, photography, graphic design and video.  This is our first juried student show and we are very excited.  We have entries displayed not only upstairs but in the downstairs gallery hallway in Templin [Hall]… the students are excited,” said Visual Arts Department Head Cece Wheeler.

Thomas Nelson Hosts Annual Spring Career Fair

Thomas Nelson Community College Workforce Development is offering students and members of the community a chance to spring into new careers at the Spring Career Fair on Thursday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Peninsula Workforce Development Center (PWDC) at 600 Butler Farm Road in Hampton.

Representatives from the region’s top manufacturing, retail, finance and other leading industries will be available to meet prospective employees face-to-face. Many employers will be accepting resumes for part-time, full-time and internship positions.

Career Services will offer free career seminars providing job-seekers with a chance to write winning resumes, sharpen interviewing skills, find federal jobs and start their own business.

During the fair, the Thomas Nelson On Ramp program will hold an information session about opportunities for free training for individuals who have been laid off due to no fault of their own. The On Ramp information session will take place in room 1118 at 11 a.m.

Job seekers may also take advantage of additional resources at the PWDC, including the One Stop Career Resource Center for free seminars and workshops as well as the Virginia Employment Commission for additional assistance in their search for jobs.

Career fair attendees are encouraged to dress professionally and bring copies of their resumes as some employers will conduct on-site interviews.

Blood Drive

The Thomas Nelson Red Cross Club will host the final Blood Drive of the year on April 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The event will be held in a new location,  Library Gallery, Wythe Hall at the Hampton campus. Red Cross Club President Alissa Moreno says “This time of the semester can be stressful, but setting one hour of your time aside to give blood will make you feel good  — one donation can save three lives!”

Spring Break Service Hours

Thomas Nelson Community College will offer services during Spring Break (March 3-March 9 2014) from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. only. No evening services will be available during that time. The College will resume normal day and evening hours beginning March 10, 2014. Please check the website for hours for individual offices and departments. Have a fabulous and safe Spring Break!

Hampton Campus Cashier & Accounting Services Temporary Location Change

  • Hampton campus Cashier Services will be temporarily relocated to the Photo ID Office (Diggs Hall, room 155)  from Monday, February 24–Thursday, March 6.
  • All other Hampton campus student accounting staff will be temporarily relocated to the Espada Room (Moore Hall) from Monday, February  24–Friday, March 7.
