Thomas Nelson Middle College Free GED Program to host Information Session

Thomas Nelson Community College will host a Middle College information session for young adults, ages 18-24, interested in earning their GED and college credit, on April 10, at 5 p.m. at the Peninsula Workforce Development Center room 1118, 600 Butler Farm Rd. Hampton, Va. 23666.

Thomas Nelson’s Middle College is a Virginia’s Community College initiative designed to offer a free college opportunity for individuals who have not completed high school. Middle College is offered free of charge for those who qualify.

Middle College provides those who qualify with a GED, college credit, a career readiness certificate, workplace readiness skills and in-demand job training. The program covers fees for the GED test, training, tuition, books and fees.

Thomas Nelson Hosts STEM Job Fair

Thomas Nelson Community College Workforce Development, in partnership with the Science, Engineering and Technology Division, is hosting the STEM Opportunity Job Fair on March 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Moore Hall Espada Room on the Hampton Campus.

Thomas Nelson is connecting Hampton Roads employers in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) industries directly with Thomas Nelson students and members of the community.

Representatives from more than a dozen of the region’s top manufacturing, finance and other STEM industries will be present, including Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, American Chemical Society, Hampton Roads Sanitation District, NASA, Newport News Shipbuilding and more.

“The goal of this STEM Opportunity Fair is to expose our students to employers in the area and to allow employers to see that we have very talented students in STEM at Thomas Nelson,” said Riham Mahfouz, assistant professor and chair of the Department of Chemistry. “Work experiences such as internships are invaluable in increasing a graduate’s chances of landing a great job and this fair will help provide those opportunities for our students.”

Career fair attendees are encouraged to dress professionally and bring copies of their resumes as some employers will conduct on-site interviews.

TNCC Closed July 4 in Observance of Independence Day

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) campuses in Hampton and Williamsburg will be closed Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. The College will reopen on Friday, July 5.

During the July 4 closure, new and returning students may register for fall semester classes and make tuition payments online at www.tncc.edu. Fall classes begin Wednesday, Aug. 21. A complete list of academic and Workforce Development offerings is available on the College’s website.

 

TNCC Board Meets Wednesday, April 24

The Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) Board will meet Wednesday, April 24 at 5:45 p.m. in the College Board Room, Moore Hall, on the Hampton campus.

The Board’s committee meetings will take place earlier at 5 p.m. in Harrison Hall. The Financial and Municipal Liaison Committee will convene in Room 3 and the Curriculum, Instruction, and Student Services Committee in Conference Room 9.

The Board will meet in closed session in accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. The general Board meeting is open to the public in accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.

TNCC Closed to the Public March 6, Professional Development Activities Taking Place

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) campuses in Hampton and the Historic Triangle in Williamsburg will be closed to the public 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 6. TNCC personnel will be engaged in a series of workshops and training sessions on the Hampton campus. Services including registration, fee and tuition payment for TNCC’s second eight-week class session will be available online at www.tncc.edu.

Bookstores on both campuses will be open. TNCC’s Workforce Development sections will operate as follows:

  • Workforce Training and Continuing Education will be closed as students will be on spring break;
  • Workforce Transition and Career Services in Hampton and Williamsburg will conduct Middle College and Plugged-in classes;
  • The Business Development and Corporate Training division in Hampton will be open;
  • Rapid Response services will be provided on an as-needed basis;
  • The Manufacturing Excellence Center in Hampton will be open;
  • The Discovery Center in Williamsburg will be open.

 The College will reopen at 8 a.m. on Thursday, March 7. All classes begin Monday, March 11.

 

TNCC Classes Cancelled Starting at Noon, Offices Close at 2 p.m.

Thomas Nelson Community College’s afternoon and evening classes for Friday, January 25 and Saturday, January 26 on the Hampton and Historic Triangle campuses, at the Southeast Higher Education Center and satellite sites are cancelled due to predicted inclement weather. College offices on both campuses will close at 2 p.m on Friday, January 25.

Beginning at noon today, Friday, January 25, Thomas Nelson Community College’s afternoon and evening classes on the Hampton and Historic Triangle campuses, at the Southeast Higher Education Center and satellite sites are cancelled due to predicted inclement weather. College offices on both campuses will close at 2 p.m.

TNCC officials will continue to monitor weather and campus conditions throughout the evening. At this time, TNCC campuses plan to operate on a regular schedule on Saturday, January 26. Please check www.tncc.edu for updated information.
