The Virginia Peninsula – Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) and the College of William and Mary have signed a co-enrollment agreement that will benefit qualified TNCC students interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the second oldest university in the United States.

Beginning fall 2006, this partnership between TNCC and the College of William and Mary will guarantee admission of up to 15 eligible TNCC students per year to the College of William and Mary. Students who complete a minimum of 15 transferable credits at TNCC with a 3.5 GPA or above can sign a letter of intent to co-enroll in as many as five courses at William and Mary and pay TNCC tuition and fees. Co-enrolled students who earn an associate degree in arts or sciences at TNCC with a 2.7 G.P.A., as well as a 2.7 G. P. Students interested in obtaining detailed information on the co-enrollment agreement can contact the TNCC Transfer Center at 825-3860.

“Last fall, more than 3,600 students or 42% of our student population were enrolled in our college transfer programs,” said TNCC President, Dr. Charles A. Taylor. “This indicates a clear
commitment by our students to pursue their baccalaureate degrees. With this co-enrollment agreement, we are creating a pathway for our students who are interested in attending the College of William and Mary. It encourages them to excel to achieve their educational goals at one of the nation’s most prestigious institutions of higher education. I am very pleased that we have this great partnership with the College of William and Mary that benefits our community.”

“I’ve been reminded again and again during the last few months that Dr. Taylor and his colleagues are doing great things at Virginia’s community colleges,” said William and Mary President Gene R. Nichol. “We are delighted to lock arms with Thomas Nelson to help bring the peninsula’s brightest minds to William and Mary, and their work to our Commonwealth and the broader world.”

Participating co-enrolled students who earn the associate in arts or sciences degree with a 2.7 GPA or above will be guaranteed admission to The College of William and Mary with junior standing and most lower-division general education goals met. (Students intending to enroll in the College of William and Mary’s School of Business Administration or the School of Education must meet additional requirements.)

Eligible TNCC graduates admitted as degree candidates to The College of William and Mary will be considered for all need-based financial aid, including the College’s Gateway initiative, which provides full grant up to a student’s financial need. Co-enrolled TNCC students will receive a William and Mary ID card, which entitles them to student discounts, library privileges, access to computer labs and student parking on the campus of The College of William and Mary.
