Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) Phi Sigma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society will host its fall 2010 induction on Friday, October 1. Free and open to the public, the ceremony takes place at 7 p.m. in the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium, Templin Hall, located on the Hampton campus.
Virginia Delegate Robin Abbott, a 1997 TNCC graduate and Phi Theta Kappa member, will be the keynote speaker. Representing the 93rd district, Del. Abbott is a consumer advocate and attorney who has lived in Newport News for more than two decades. She is a partner in the law firm Consumer Litigation Associates, P.C. with offices in Newport News and Fairfax. Del. Abbott was awarded TNCC’s Dana B. Hamel Award this year for her support of community college education.
More than 800 students met PTK International Honor Society membership requirements and were selected on the basis of having a 3.5 or higher grade point average. Those invited for membership also completed at least 12 credit hours of coursework in a declared degree program.
