Financial Aid and Registration for Summer 2012

Published: March 26, 2012

Summer registration begins for currently enrolled students on Monday, March 26, 2012.  The 2012 Summer Aid Application will also be available beginning March 26th and must be completed to be considered for summer assistance.  The priority deadline to complete this application is April 20, 2012.  If we receive your summer aid application after April 20, 2012, your financial aid will not be available by the tuition due date on May 4, 2012. If you submit your summer aid application after April 20, 2012, you will need to have another way to pay for your tuition and fees, as well as any bookstore charges.

Detailed information regarding the summer aid process and the summer aid application will be available on our website.

It is important to read the information before applying for summer aid.  You can also pick-up the information from Financial Aid Services in Griffin Hall, Room 212 (Hampton) and at the Historic Triangle Campus (Williamsburg).

As we near the date to begin registration for the summer 2012 semester, Financial Aid Services wants to remind you of some important information to ensure a successful term.

  • Register for your classes as soon as possible to ensure you get the classes you want.
  • Remember that Pell Grant awards are locked at enrollment that is posted as of the 10-week census date (May 30, 2012).  If you add any classes after this date, you will not receive additional Pell Grant dollars.
  • We encourage you to register for ALL of your summer 2012 classes during the 10-week, 8-week, and 5-week I sessions.  This will allow Financial Aid Services to process your refunds in a timely manner.  Selecting classes in 6-week or 5-week II sessions will delay your refunds.
  • Shortly, we will be sending out the dates that financial aid students may charge their books and supplies in the TNCC Bookstore.  Please adhere to this schedule and note that even if your classes begin in the 6-week or 5-week II sessions, you can only charge your books and supplies to financial aid during these specific dates.

To avoid waiting in line at the bookstore, we strongly urge you to use the online service available.  You can use your financial aid up to $650 (after tuition and fees) to purchase your books and supplies AND you may charge the shipping up to $19.99 to your financial aid.

When will MyTNCC show a financial aid decision for the summer. I completed the FAFSA also week and SIS says that I have no financial aid decision.

In order to receive financial aid for the summer, a student must complete the 2011-2012 FAFSA AND the TNCC 2012 Summer Aid Application.  The priority date for the summer is April 20, 2012.

Will we have any idea of how much our tuition will be, and if we are approved for any financial aid before the tuition due date of MAY 4th?? It’s only two weeks away, and it would be extremely helpful to know how much money we may need to come out of pocket with in advance. Thanks

Students can view their tuition charges through the My TNCC Portal under Finances. This is where students can also view their anticipated financial aid for the upcoming semester. Students will also receive an e-mail at their VCCS e-mail address, when they have been awarded.

I have taken my placement tests and signed up for financial aid. Now when I applied to TNCC, I put that I would like to attend the Spring semester of 2013. I wanted to know if it was too late to sign up for Fall of 2012. I’ve got an email saying that my financial aid was processed, but I did not receive an email from TNCC about my financial aid. I would LOVE to start as soon as possible. I checked on the Course Catalog on MyTNCC and there are a few seats available in the courses I would like to take this Fall semester. Let me know what I can do. Thank you!
