Autism will be the focus of a free workshop at Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) on Tuesday, April 2 on the Hampton campus in the Wythe Hall Gallery. The one-hour event takes place at 12 p.m. with presenter Dr. Maria Urbano of Eastern Virginia Medical School’s (EVMS) Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science.
Dr. Urbano will share her knowledge, experience and insight into this growing field of research focusing on young adults on the autism spectrum and those that are diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. Students with autism in higher education, careers and accommodations and how to focus on their strengths will also be among topics.
An EVMS graduate and associate clinical professor, Dr. Urbano is a board-certified psychiatrist with more than 20 years of experience in psychiatric assessment and treatment. She is part of a team that assesses, treats and researches autism in depth.
