Gov. McAuliffe to Speak at Thomas Nelson’s May 15 Commencement Ceremony

Thomas Nelson Community College will celebrate its 45th commencement ceremony Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m. at the Hampton Coliseum with Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe as keynote speaker.

Gov. McAuliffe is a graduate of Catholic University and Georgetown Law School. He entered politics at age 23 and served as the National Finance Director for Jimmy Carter. He was named Democratic National Committee Chair in 2000 and served through 2005.

As governor, he is focused on growing Virginia’s economy, working in a bipartisan manner, expanding access to health care and increasing educational opportunities for students. He is the first governor to have visited all 23 community colleges in the Commonwealth.

Gov. McAuliffe is also dedicated to ensuring that the Commonwealth is open and welcoming to all. On his first day in office, he signed Executive Order Number 1. The order prohibits discrimination instate government based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
