Distance Learning

"With a husband that travels for work and kids at home, I didn't think I had time to go back to school - and I wasn't sure how much I would learn in an online class. I've taken two online IST courses now and I am impressed with how responsive the IST instructional staff is and with how much I've learned in both my classes."

~ 2011 IST distance learning student

Fitting college courses into a busy life is easier than ever with TNCC's popular online classes. Whether you are working your courses around employment, family commitments, or travel, distance learning offers flexibility that can help you find the time to reach your education goals. Students who are new to distance learning are often surprised at how engaging and personalized online courses can be.

All IST courses, including those required for all career studies certificate programs, are available online through the Blackboard distance learning system. Blackboard creates on an internet-based portal for students and TNCC instructors that includes online classroom discussions, lecture presentations, course-based chat rooms, a file exchange, and more. Coursework, including projects, tests and quizzes, is all submitted online. Students can also review grades and comments from their instructors on their Blackboard course site. Many of our online course professors even invite distance learners to attend in-classroom lectures of the same course as desired.

Each semester, TNCC offers a short distance learning workshop at the Hampton campus where the ins and outs of online learning through Blackboard are presented. Students have the opportunity to ask questions, meet instructors, and speak with the distance learning staff. Students unable to attend the orientation, or who wish to learn more now, can access the distance learning orientation online below. TNCC's online Help Desk offers technical support, and the Blackboard website provides another resource for the distance learning software. All you need is a reliable internet connection.
