The Chesapeake Wind Ensemble was founded in 1998 to provide an avenue for local amateur musicians to hone their skills. With about 40 members, the ensemble plays a wide variety of pieces at a myriad of venues in the Hampton Roads area, presenting approximately eight performances annually. The nonprofit organization offers special opportunities for its high school musicians with scholarships for some graduating students.
The York River Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1984 with help from the York County School Board to cater to advanced music students. Since its inception, the nonprofit organization has given area orchestra students the opportunity to play a wide variety of pieces at a myriad of venues in the Hampton Roads area, including the Virginia Air & Space Museum. While the musicians hone their music and performing skills, residents in Hampton Roads have the opportunity to enjoy affordable entertainment.
