Local Production Company Brings Comedy to TNCC

Published: September 15, 2011

Poquoson Island Players will present “Lend Me a Tenor” September 16 – 25 at Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) in the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium, Hampton campus. The show is open to the public with Friday and Saturday performances at 8 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. shows on Sundays.

The Ken Ludwig comedy finds famed opera star Tito Merelli in a hilarious series of mishaps when he arrives late to perform with the Cleveland Opera. After Merelli is accidentally given a double dose of tranquilizers, Cleveland’s premiere opera producer thinks he is dead and launches a frantic attempt to put on a show without Merelli. Of course, things don’t go as planned and comedy fills the production.

Poquoson Island Players was created in 1985 to provide affordable entertainment for theater lovers on the Virginia Peninsula. The theater company holds residency at the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium and produces three shows annually, including musicals, comedies, mysteries and dramas.

Tickets are $15, $13 for students, military and seniors. For more information and reservations, please call 881-9797. For information about the Poquoson Island Players, please visit www.pipstheatre.com. For details about TNCC’s Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium, please visit www.tncc.edu.
