Poquoson Island Players will present “My Jo” Sept. 17– 26 at Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) in the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium, Hampton campus. The show is open to the public with Friday and Saturday performances at 8 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. shows on Sundays.
Tickets are $15 for general admission, $13 for students and seniors and $12 for groups of 10 or more. Tickets are available at the door, and reservations can be made by calling the Poquoson Island Players box office at 757-881-9797.
Set in England in during the Civil War, the musical follows a woman along with her mother and three sisters as they work to survive without the patriarch of the family. As some of the characters conform to the submissive attitudes of women during that time, Jo March chases independence and moves to New York City to become a writer. When tragedy strikes her family, Jo March must fight against adversity to achieve her dreams. The musical is inspired by “Little Women” and the works of Louisa May Alcot.
Poquoson Island Players was created to provide affordable entertainment for theatre lovers on the Virginia Peninsula. The theatre company holds residency at the TNCC auditorium and produces three shows annually, including musicals, comedies and dramas.
