TNCC Board to Meet Wednesday, Sept. 23

The Thomas Nelson Community College Board will meet on Wednesday, September 23 at 5:45 p.m. in the College Board Room, Moore Hall on the Hampton campus. The Financial and Municipal Liaison Committee (FAML) will meet at 4:45 p.m. in Room 3, Harrison Hall. The Curriculum, Instruction and Student Services Committee (CISS) will meet at 5:15 p.m. in Room 9, Harrison Hall.

The general board meeting and committee meetings are open to the public in accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. Any member of the general public desiring to address the meeting must notify the Board Secretary (the President of the College) prior to the start of the meeting.

Three New Members Appointed to TNCC Board

Three new members have been appointed to the Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) Board. Joining the Board are Ms. Christine Gergely, Mr. Everett Jordan Jr. and Ms. Stephanie White representing Newport News, Poquoson and Hampton, respectively.

The TNCC Board consists of 14 members representing the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson and Williamsburg, and the counties of York and James City. In participation with the College President, the body is charged with assuring that TNCC is responsive to the needs existing within its service area within the statewide policies, procedures and regulations of the State Board for Community Colleges.

About the new members:

Ms. Christine Gergely is a native of Hampton now residing in Newport News. An educator in the Hampton City Schools for 33 years, she holds a Master of Arts in Education from the College of William and Mary and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Radford College. She served as president of the Hampton Reading Council, chaired the Virginia State Reading Association’s Newspapers in Education Committee and was the first Daily Press Newspaper in Education Teacher of the Year ((1994).

Additionally, she is a member and past president of the Honorary Educational and Altruistic Sorority, Alpha Kappa Delta, Alpha Pi Chapter and is active in several community and civic organizations. Specializing in the Analysis of Reading Problems and Reading in the Content Area, Ms. Gergely has presented on various areas of Reading at state and national educational conferences.

Mr. Everett Jordan Jr. is a 36-year employee of Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding Newport News currently serving as trades director with responsibility for ship fitting and dimensional control. Additionally, he is company liaison to the Virginia Community College System and an executive board member of the Greater Peninsula Workforce Investment Board. Mr. Jordan is a graduate of The Apprentice School and attended Thomas Nelson Community College. He holds an Associates and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Saint Leo University and a Master of Arts in Education and Human Development from The George Washington University.

Ms. Stephanie White, a long-time supporter and former TNCC student, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Norfolk State University and a Masters degree in Human Resource Management from Florida Institute of Technology. She is a 12-year employee with Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding Newport News in human resources. Since moving to Virginia in 1994, she has been an active member of the community, volunteering in the Buckroe Civic Association, Kiwanis by the Bay, and various youth programs.

TNCC Board’s June 24 Meeting is Canceled

HAMPTON, Va. – The Thomas Nelson Community College Board meeting scheduled to take place Wednesday, June 24 has been canceled. The Financial and Municipal Liaison Committee (FAML) and the Curriculum, Instruction and Student Services Committee (CISS) meetings are also canceled. 

The general board meeting and committee meetings are open to the public in accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. Any member of the general public desiring to address the meeting must notify the Board Secretary (the President of the College) prior to the start of the meeting.

TNCC Board’s April 22 Meeting is Canceled

The Thomas Nelson Community College Board will not meet as scheduled on Wednesday, April 22 as the required meeting notices were not posted in all of the appropriate locations in accordance with § 2.2-3707 of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.

Committee meetings to include the Financial and Municipal Liaison Committee (FAML) and the Curriculum, Instruction and Student Services Committee (CISS) are also canceled. The meetings will be rescheduled with notices posted for a later date.

The general board meeting and committee meetings are open to the public in accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. Any member of the general public desiring to address the meeting must notify the Board Secretary (the President of the College) prior to the start of the meeting.

Thomas Nelson Community College Board to Meet Wednesday, Dec. 2

The Thomas Nelson Community College Board will meet on Wednesday, December 2, 2008 at 5:45 p.m. in the College Board Room, Moore Hall (Hampton campus).

The Finance and Municipal Liaison Committee will meet at 4:45 p.m. in the President’s Conference Room,  Harrison Hall (room 3). The Curriculum, Instruction and Student Services Committee will meet at 5:15 p.m., Harrison Hall (room 9).

The Board will meet in closed session in accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, §2.2-3711.A for the purpose of discussing certain specific personnel matters of the College.

The general Board meeting is open to the public in accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.
