Thomas Nelson Community College will open its 50th anniversary celebration with an 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. event called Launch to 50 at the Hampton campus on Tuesday, Aug. 29. Open to students and College personnel, the gathering begins an 18-month celebration. 

The day’s festivities will include performances by the Fife and Drums of Yorktown's Living History Associates, Ltd.; presentation of a 50th anniversary proclamation by the City of Hampton, acknowledgement of the occasion by Governor Thomas Nelson courtesy of Yorktown’s Living History Associates, Ltd.; countdown to 50 and an archival exhibition featuring historic photographs.

As a special treat, the College's division deans will showcase their best dessert designs in a cake competition. The event will conclude with a celebratory toast.

Other anniversary-themed events scheduled this year include a dinner theater in November and a cornerstone luncheon and ceremony in December. Details, including events planned for 2018, will be available soon.
