Computer Science @ TNCCThe computer science department offers courses for non-majors as well as those taken by computer science majors and related fields, including engineering. All course are offered in lecture and online modes.

Computer Science is an Associate of Science degree that parallels course work with four-year college requirements. The curriculum emphasizes the study of science, mathematics, and the use of computing in a scientific setting. The program is not designed for immediate job training, but represents the first two years of a four-year college or university program. A degree in computer science can lead to many positions in industry, government, and small companies. You can be involved in education, research, or vocational areas.

Dual Enrollment (Return to Top)

Dual Enrollment @ TNCCDual Enrollment is a program that allows high school students to earn college credit toward a post-secondary diploma, certificate, or degree at a Virginia public college that will also count toward a high school diploma.

The program serves as an inexpensive way for students to earn college credit as well as providing high school students first hand exposure to the requirements of college level work. Dual Enrollment offers a wider array of curricular options, shortens students time to earn a degree and helps students make the psychological transition to post secondary education.

A new area of concentration is currently under development in modeling and simulation.

Students who enjoy calculus, physics, chemistry and problem solving may want to consider engineering as a field of study. Engineering positions are readily available and salaries are very competitive. Engineers are inventors and innovators and have many opportunities to improve society, building hospitals, improving transportation, establishing clean water supplies, developing new materials, products and processes.
