Business Scholarship for Single Women
Ferguson Enterprises, Inc., on behalf of Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) student Marla Petty established the scholarship in 2006. Marla Petty participated in a project called “Business Plan for Changes for Women” as part of an Introduction to Business class. One component of Marla’s business plan was to present a scholarship to a woman who might not be able to afford to go to TNCC. Ferguson Enterprises, Inc. honored this request by providing the monies Marla requested.

Requirements

  • Female student;
  • Must be pursuing a degree or certificate in business; and
  • Eligible students, taking at least three hours per semester, must have completed six hours with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.


T. Melvin Butler Memorial Scholarship
The T. Melvin Butler Memorial Scholarship was established in 1997 to honor Melvin Butler, first chairperson of the TNCC College Board, and Past President of the TNCC Educational Foundation. Mr. Butler devoted his life to public service. Part-time students currently working in a public services field receive priority consideration.

Requirements

  • Be a full-time (12 or more credit hours) or part-time (less than 12 credit hours) student at TNCC;
  • Be enrolled in a Public Administration curriculum for credit;
  • Have completed at least 15 semester hours;
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5; and
  • Priority consideration will be given to a part-time student currently working in a Public Administration field.


Robert A. Frank Memorial Scholarship
Robert A. Frank was Thomas Nelson Community College’s first Business Manager and, as the college grew, became the first Dean of Finance and
Administrative Services. Mr. Frank retired from the college in 1981. The Robert A. Frank Memorial Scholarship was established in 1996 in his memory.

  • Enrolled in one of TNCC’s business curriculums;
  • Completed at least 15 semester hours at TNCC; and
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.


Dr. J. P. Hill Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2001 to honor Dr. John Hill, Professor Emeritus and former Executive Director of the TNCC Educational Foundation. Dr. Hill dedicated his life to public services including devoting over 30 years of service to TNCC. Priority consideration will be given to students enrolled in a degree program with the Business and Public Services Division.

Awarded in fall and divided equally between the fall and spring semesters. A GPA of 2.5 must be maintained in order to receive the award for the spring semester.

  • Completed at least 12 semester hours


Top Guard Security Scholarship
The Top Guard Security Scholarship was established in 1996 for students enrolled in TNCC’s Administration of Justice program. Preference will be given to students enrolling in the first year of the program.

Fall and Spring (separate application required for each semester)

Requirements

  • Virginia resident;
  • High school GPA of 3.0; and
  • Be in the first year of study in the Administration of Justice program.

If a GPA of 3.0 is maintained during the fall semester, the recipient will be awarded the scholarship for the spring semester.

If there is no first year student who fulfills the requirements of this scholarship, second year students will be eligible for this scholarship.


American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) Scholarship
The American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) Scholarship was established to reinforce ASMC’s commitment to promote the financial management career field within the communities it serves.

Fall. If the scholarship recipient has funds remaining at the end of the first semester, these funds may be used in the following semester provided a 3.0 minimum GPA was maintained.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a two-year curriculum transferable to a four-year institution;
  • Minimum high school GPA of 2.5 if a graduating high school senior or acceptable test placement scores if a returning adult;
  • Demonstrated financial need but does not qualify for financial aid;
  • Have a financial aid form on file at TNCC; and
  • Plans to pursue a career in financial management.


Gayle K. Blankenship Memorial Scholarship
Gayle K. Blankenship received her BS in Chemistry from Randolph-Macon Women’s College in 1960. She worked as a research analytical chemist in the Department of Geology at Virginia Tech, and subsequently at Union Carbide in Cleveland, Ohio. Gayle was active in secondary education through science enrichment programs. She was a community leader in recreation, specifically water safety and swimming pool management. Gayle was awarded the Red Cross 30-year pin for her service as a Water Safety Instructor. She was an adjunct faculty member at TNCC where she taught Chemistry from 1991 to 2003. Gayle’s passion for education and the success of young people is recognized with the Gayle K. Blankenship Memorial Scholarship. When possible, preference will be given to those students in a curriculum where Chemistry is a required course.

Awarded in fall and divided equally between the fall and spring semesters. For the scholarship to continue in the spring semester, the recipient must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in a two-year program of study at TNCC (AA, AS or AAS);
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5;
  • Demonstrate financial need by receiving financial aid; and
  • When possible, preference will be given to those students in a curriculum where Chemistry is a required course.
