George S. Ames Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1991, the George S. Ames Memorial Scholarship assists students pursuing an education in a technical field. George Ames served as a White House correspondent prior to World War II. Following the war, he settled in the Williamsburg area where he worked at Fort Eustis writing regulations and making training films. Mr. Ames was very concerned about education and the fact that many youth were dropping out of school. He was particularly concerned with the small amount of young people seeking an education in technical areas. Preference is given to graduates from one of the public high schools in Williamsburg or James City County.

Awarded in fall and divided equally between the fall and spring semesters. A GPA of 2.5 must be maintained in order to receive the award for the spring semester.

Requirements

  • Virginia resident;
  • Minimum high school GPA of 2.5;
  • Enrolled and maintain full-time student status;
  • Resident of Williamsburg or James City County preferred; and
  • Register in technology field.

In addition to standard Application Packet include

  • Letter of recommendation written by a teacher; and
  • Statement of nomination, usually written by the student’s guidance counselor, not to exceed two single-spaced typewritten pages which include:
    • A description of the ways in which academic excellence has been demonstrated, and
    • A description of extracurricular activities and/or civic work.


Howmet Corporation Scholarship
Howmet Corporation is a premier manufacturer of components for the jet aircraft, gas turbine, and other advanced-technology industries. They are also a major supplier of raw materials and equipment to the investment casting industry, and excel in finished goods processes that include contract management, hot isostatic pressing, machining, and thermal coating.

Not to exceed $1,200

Semester(s) Awarded
Awarded in fall and divided equally between the fall and spring semesters. A GPA of 2.0 must be maintained in order to receive the award for the spring semester. Scholarship may be continued second year if GPA of 2.8 is maintained.

Requirements

  • Virginia resident;
  • Graduate of one of the public high schools in the TNCC service area, which includes the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York;
  • Minimum high school GPA of 2.0;
  • Enrolled and maintain full-time student status; and
  • Registered in a technology field related to the work done at Howmet Corporation.

In addition to standard Application Packet include

  • Letter of recommendation written by a teacher; and

Siemens VDO Automotive Corporation Scholarships
Siemens VDO Automotive Corporation established two scholarships - one in 1995 and the other in 1998 - to provide assistance to students pursuing a course of study leading to a two- or four-year degree in a technology field applicable to Siemens. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence and level of participation in extracurricular activities. Scholarship preference for one of the awards will be given to applicants who have previously participated in middle/high school programs such as CHROME and ATOMS. Scholarship preference for the other award will be given to applicants who are close family members of a current or retired employee of Siemens.

  • First-year student during the year immediately following high school graduation;
  • Graduating senior of one of the public or private high schools in the
  • TNCC service area;
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA;
  • Full-time student; and
  • Enrolled in one of TNCC’s technology field applicable to the work of Siemens.


Dr. Theodore S. Savvas Memorial Scholarship (AHEPA)
The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) is by far the largest Greek-American origanization. Its scope is international - with chapters in the United States, Canada, Australia, and Greece. AHEPA was founded July 26, 1922, in Atlanta, Georgia, by visionary Americans pf Greek descent to protect Hellenes from the evils of bigotry and to help assimilate them into American society in the early 20th Century. Although a majority of the membership is composed of Americans of Hellenic descent, application for membership is open to everyone who believes in the mission of the organization. Themission of the AHEPA Family is to promote Hellenism, Education, Philanthrophy, Civic Responsibility, and Family and Individual Excellence.

Awarded in fall and divided equally between the fall and spring semesters. For the scholarship to continue in the spring semester, the recipient must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Requirements

  • Be registered as and maintain full-time student status at TNCC;
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5; and
  • Enrolled in the AS Science or AS Engineering curriculum.


John F. Lawrence Memorial Scholarship
A scholarship was established in 2000 in memory of John F. Lawrence, Professor Emeritus at TNCC. He joined the TNCC family in 1968 and retired in 1997 as the Division Chair of the Engineering Technologies Division.

  • Enrolled in one of TNCC’s Engineering or Computer Technology programs;
  • Completed at least 15 semester hours at TNCC; and
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.


Linda Moroz Scholarship
Linda Moroz is following the “pass it on” philosophy. As a student at TNCC, she received scholarships that helped her obtain an AS in Engineering in 1993. After graduating from ODU with a BS in Civil Engineering, she chose to “pass it on” by establishing this scholarship. Preference given to students enrolled in TNCC’s engineering curriculum.
