Loraine & Louis Drucker Scholarship
Mrs. Loraine Drucker was active in Newport News civic and cultural activities during her lifetime, including serving the Rodef Sholom Temple, the local Community Concert Association, the women’s guild of the Peninsula Symphony Orchestra, and National Women’s Committeen of Brandeis University National, among other groups. Mrs. Drucker had a lifelong interest in music and studied piano at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. After settling in Newport News with her husband, she continued to take private voice and piano lessons. Mr. Drucker was a founding partner of Drucker and Falk Realtors. He was active in the community, playing a major role in merging the Newport News and Hampton Community Chests into one charitable organization which later became the United Way. He served as United Way campaign chairman in 1958 and was a longtime member of Rodef Sholom Temple. This scholarship honors the memories of Mr. and Mrs. Drucker.

Not to exceed $1,500

Semester(s) Awarded
Awarded in fall and divided equally between the fall and spring semesters. A GPA of 2.5 must be maintained in order to receive the award for the spring semester.

Requirements

  • Virginia resident;
  • Graduating senior of one of the public high schools in the TNCC service area, which includes the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York;
  • Minimum high school GPA of 2.5;
  • Enrolled and maintain full-time student status; and
  • Student must be in financial need under the same criteria for federal grant programs.

In addition to standard Application Packet include

  • Letter of application stating career goals and civic work/ extracurricular activities.
  • Statement of nomination, usually written by the student’s guidance counselor, not to exceed two single-spaced typewritten pages which include:
    • A description of the ways in which academic excellence has been demonstrated, and
    • A description of extracurricular activities and/or civic work.


Wachovia Bank, N.A. Scholarship
The Wachovia Bank, N.A. Scholarship, attests to Wachovia’s commitment of promoting development within the communities it serves. This two-year scholarship is intended to help pay tuition for a student in need of financial assistance. Preference will be given to applicants who are first generation college students. If the Wachovia Bank, N.A. Scholarship award winner receives an associate’s degree from Thomas Nelson Community College while maintaining a 2.5 grade point average of better, that individual may be eligible for a scholarship at selected minority four-year colleges.

Awarded in fall for the fall and spring semesters of the current and subsequent academic year. The student must maintain a 2.5 GPA or better for the scholarship to continue in the spring and in each semester of the second year.

Requirements

  • Full-time student;
  • Enrolled in a two-year curriculum;
  • Virginia resident;
  • New student that has graduated from high school or received a General Education Diploma (GED) within the last two years;
  • Minimum high school GPA of 2.5; and
  • Recipients of a GED must submit two letters of recommendation with application packet.


SunTrust Bank Scholarship
SunTrust Bank established the SunTrust Bank Scholarship in 2005 to award the scholarly pursuits of a deserving TNCC student.

Awarded in fall and divided equally between the fall and spring semesters.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a two-year program of study at TNCC (A.A., A.S., or A.A.S.;
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2,5; and
  • Demonstrate financial need by receiving financial aid.


Wythe Women’s Club Millie Brown Scholarship
The Wythe Women’s Club Millie Brown Scholarship was established in 2002 to honor Millie Brown. Ms. Brown devoted her life to public service. The scholarship is available for both new and returning students and will be awarded to either a part- or full-time student enrolled at TNCC.

Awarded in fall and divided equally between the fall and spring semesters. A GPA of 3.0 must be maintained in order to receive the award for the spring semester.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated financial need;
  • Enrolled in a degree program or be a candidate for an A.A., A.S., or A.A.S. degree; and
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
