Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) Department of Communications, Humanities and Social Sciences presents “Welcome to the Far East of Nowhere?” The faculty colloquium will examine the Peace Corps and its operations in Mongolia. Free and open to the public, the 90-minute presentation begins at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 17 in the Espada Conference Center, Moore Hall on the Hampton campus.
TNCC Adjunct Professor of English Christopher LaPointe will describe his experiences as a member of the Peace Corps. He served in Mongolia from June 2007 to August 2009, but stayed in the country an extra year to experience the culture. LaPointe hopes to appeal to those interested in joining the Peace Corps as well as those who are “simply interested in multicultural experiences.”
LaPointe teaches College Composition I and II, courses that introduce students to critical thinking, the writing process, academic research and more. He has also taught Survey of American Literature I, which examines American literature from colonial times to the present.
