Special Notes : This section is a Distance Learning course taught using Blackboard via the Internet. Students must have regular access to a computer and the Internet to successfully complete this course. Orientations for Fall 2012 will be held on Wednesday, August 15, from 5-6 pm in the Mary T. Christian Auditorium in Templin Hall on the Hampton Campus and Thursday, August 16, from 5-6 pm in the Commonwealth Classroom - room 110 - at the Historic Triangle Campus. Full Course Description : (3 credits) Prerequisite(s): ENF 1 or ENF 2 as demonstrated through the placement and diagnostics tests or equivalent. Provides an overview of the fundamentals of computer information systems. Focuses on the role of computers in business today including hardware, software, analysis, design and implementation of information systems. Includes an introduction to computer ethics, and business and personal security. Exposes students to techniques used in programming and system development. Utilizes a hands-on component for spreadsheets, databases, and web design applications. Lecture 3 hours per week.
