EMT-Basic. Students must take EMS 111 and EMS 120 simultaneously. Students without a current CPR certification must also complete EMS 100. EMS classes are taught by Center for Emergency Medical Services at 701 Industrial Park Drive, Newport News. Students are required to visit their web site, www.center4ems.org for detailed information. (7 credits) Prerequisite: Prerequisite: CPR certification at the Health Care Provider level. Co-requisite(s): EMS 100 and EMS 120. Prepares student for certification as a Virginia and National Registry EMT-Basic. Includes all aspects of pre-hospital basic life support as defined by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services curriculum for Emergency Medicine Technician Basic. Lecture 5 hours + lab 4 hours = total 8 hours per week.
