Virus Protection for Students
You must have an up-to-date virus checker. If you do not have a virus checker and you are a registered VCCS student you can download Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition for use on your personal computers.
Versions for PCs, Macintosh, and Vista are available for download from the TNCC tab once you are logged on to Blackboard.
If you have bought your virus checker you must buy a new program or renew your license every year. If you use the VCCS version of Symantec the license is renewed annually and you may continue to use it for as long as you are a registered VCCS student.

Using a firewall to help protect your computer
A firewall helps protect your computer by preventing unauthorized users from gaining access to it through a network or the Internet.
A firewall is different from antivirus software, but the two of them work together to help protect your computer. You might say that a firewall guards the windows and doors against strangers or unwanted programs trying to get in, while an antivirus program protects against viruses or other security threats that can try to sneak in through the front door.
Enabling a Firewall
Some operating systems have built-in firewalls.
