TNCC to Explore Americans with Disabilities Act with Free Seminar

HAMPTON, Va. – Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) Disabled Student Services team invites faculty, staff and guests to learn about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) during a free seminar Tuesday, March 9 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium, Templin Hall, Hampton campus.

Howard Kallem, Chief Regional Attorney for the Office for Civil Rights, an arm of the U.S. Department of Education, will offer tips and answer questions about the enhancement of services for disabled individuals on college campuses. Kallem’s experience with the Office for Civil Rights spans more than 15 years. Recently, he served as a Senior Equal Opportunity Specialist with the Office of Equity and Diversity Services at George Mason University. Kallem’s resume also includes more than 10 years with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, a position as co-chair of the Arlington Public Schools Minority Achievement Advisory Committee, and Commissioner and Vice Chair of the Arlington County Human Rights Commission.

TNCC Raises Awareness About Disabilities, Depression with Play and Panel Discussion

TNCC and Had to Be Productions, a theatrical group based in California, will present “Into the Fire” at the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium (MTCA), Templin Hall, on the Hampton campus. Performances will take place Tuesday, February 23 at 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Free and open to the public, the play explores the stories of disabled veterans who work to adapt to life at home after experiencing combat-related trauma in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Vietnam.
