The Thomas Nelson Community College Department of Police & Security Services has received a $7,498 grant from the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control’s (ABC) Operation Undergrad program to assist in implementing an alcohol awareness and prevention educational program during the College’s 2007-08 academic year. This program will be the College’s first comprehensive, on-going educational program which is specifically targeted to reach students under the age of 21.
The first event, Soberfest 2007, is set for Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 11:30-1:00 p.m. at the College’s Hampton campus featuring an ABC representative demonstrating Fatal Vision Goggles which simulate the varying degrees of intoxication and physical impairment. Other activities include a movie about underage and high-risk drinking and a game show modeled after television’s Family Feud. Presenters will be on hand providing information and educational brochures, posters and giveaway items for participants.
