TNCC to Participate in Statewide Tornado Drill, March 12

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will test its emergency notification procedures at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12 during a statewide tornado drill. The date is designated as Tornado Preparedness Day in the Commonwealth.

During the drill, all components of the College’s emergency notification process will be tested including campus-wide student, faculty and staff e-mail, TNCC internet homepage alerts and e2Campus. Used by roughly 650 campuses nationwide, e2Campus is a web-based unified emergency notification system that enables the transmission of instant alerts to cell phones, land lines and/or several other communications devices.

Update: 1pm, August 29th - TNCC will operate on a normal schedule on Tuesday, 08/30 for the Hampton and Historic Triangle Campuses. Additional details will be forthcoming.


All Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) classes are canceled and campuses will be closed to the public and non-essential personnel on Friday, August 26, Saturday, August 27, and Monday, August 29 in anticipation of Hurricane Irene.

Weather Alert: Tornado Watch for the Hampton Roads area

Please be advised that a Tornado Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for an area that includes Hampton Roads cities from now until 3:00 p.m. A Tornado Watch means that conditions are favorable for a tornado to form in the watch area. Stay tuned to local media outlets and weather alert radios for further updates. Be prepared to take cover on short notice. Storm Shelter Safe Areas are located throughout Thomas Nelson Community College campuses as indicated by yellow stickers above the doors.

At this time, the College is open for classes and office operations. In the event of a power outage, please note that candles/open flames are prohibited in campus buildings. College officials are monitoring weather conditions in efforts to provide further updates. Update: TNCC Weather Closure

Update 12/16 9pm:
TNCC will reopen for business at 10am on Friday, December 17th at both the Hampton and Historic Triangle Campuses. Final Exams will resume with the 10:45am session. Students with exams scheduled for the 8am session are advised to check Blackboard for updates and to contact their instructors directly for additional information.

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will close at 1:30 p.m. today, Thursday, December 16. This includes campuses in Hampton and the Historic Triangle and the College’s Southeast Higher Education Center in Newport News.

TNCC Evening Classes Canceled Thursday, September 30

Due to inclement weather, TNCC officials are canceling evening classes (effective at 5pm) at the Hampton Campus, Historic Triangle Campus, and Southeast Higher Education Center on Thursday, September 30.

Classes will resume on Friday, October 1.

Thomas Nelson Community College will be closed on Friday, September 3, 2010 in anticipation of tropical storm conditions associated with Hurricane Earl. All classes and activities are cancelled, and College offices will remain closed on Friday, Sept. 3 through Monday, Sept. 6. This includes the Hampton and Historic Triangle Campuses and the Southeast Higher Education Center.

Essential personnel required to secure, prepare and maintain the campus before, during and after the storm will be notified by their appropriate supervisor to report for work as needed.
