College officials are monitoring weather conditions and will provide updates as information becomes available.

Maintaining College Operations

It is the intent of Thomas Nelson Community College to maintain operations in order to meet our obligations to:

  • Our students, ensure their safety and the ability to hold classes
  • Our faculty and staff, who need a well-run campus to provide education

Unless the campus is unsafe or utility systems are malfunctioning, we will strive to be open and operational.


ECMC Begins Mailing Notification Letters to Borrowers Affected by Data Theft

Regarding the recently announced data theft at the ECMC headquarters, ECMC informs the financial aid community that it began mailing notification letters to affected individuals on March 31. ECMC anticipates that all letters will be delivered no later than April 12. Each letter will include an individual activation code for enrollment in a suite of credit protection services provided for by ECMC through Experian.

Update 11/13 6pm: Thomas Nelson will resume normal operations on Saturday, November 14, classes at both campuses will be held as normal.  Additionally the performances of “Little Shop of Horrors” scheduled for this weekend will continue as planned.

Update 11/12 7pm: TNCC will remain closed on Friday, 11/13 due to a continuation of severe weather conditions.  All classes and activities at the College are cancelled. Friday night’s performance of “Little Shop of Horrors” at the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium is also canceled.

Update 11/12 6am: TNCC is closed today, 11/12, due to severe weather conditions. All day and evening classes, as well as all activities, for both the Hampton and Historic Triangle campuses are canceled.

The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood warning for Newport News/Hampton, Virginia from 1:00 p.m. (EST) Wednesday, November 11 until 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 13.

TNCC Sets Inclement Weather Closure for Saturday, Sept. 6

Tropical storm Hanna is expected to make landfall in the Hampton Roads region.  As a precaution, TNCC officials are canceling all classes at the Hampton Campus, Historic Triangle Campus, and Southeast Center on Saturday, September 6.

Governor Kaine Declares State of Emergency

Governor Timothy M. Kaine declared a state of emergency today, directing state agencies to take all reasonable actions necessary to protect the health and safety of Virginians from the potentially damaging effects of Tropical Storm Hanna.

“Current forecasts predict Hanna will bring tropical storm force winds to Virginia, causing coastal flooding and the very real possibility of tornadoes and power outages,” Governor Kaine said. “Virginians should listen to their local government representatives and local news media for instructions for the duration of the storm.”


Campus Crime Alert : Update

On Monday, Oct. 8 at Thomas Nelson Community College’s Hampton campus, an assault involving a visiting minor and a TNCC faculty member reportedly occurred . The faculty member reported the incident at 6:52 p.m. TNCC Police arrived at the scene at 6:54 p.m.. The victim, who reported scratches and bite marks, was treated and released from a local hospital. TNCC Police reports also indicate damage to a few chairs in the classroom as a result of the alleged incident. This matter remains under investigation .
