TNCC Appoints Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) named Dean Norman Hahn as the interim Vice President for Academic Affairs. Effective July 13, 2009, Hahn will serve in the role formerly held by Dr. Richard Fleming, who served in the position for three years before assuming the role of Vice President/Dean of the Prince Frederick Campus of the College of Southern Maryland.

Hahn, a TNCC alumnus, has served the College for 14 years, advancing from a faculty role to the Dean of the Division of Business, Public Services and Social Sciences.

TNCC President Appointed to ACE Commission on Advancement of Racial and Ethnic Equity

Thomas Nelson Community College President Dr. Charles A. Taylor has been appointed to the American Council for Education’s (ACE) Commission on Advancement of Racial and Ethnic Equity. Dr. Taylor is among more than 30 college and university leaders from across the nation named to the commission. His term lasts through June 30, 2010. The commission advises the ACE on issues related to diversity in higher education while contributing to programs and activities coordinated by the Center for Advancement of Racial and Ethnic Equity (CAREE).

Two New Members Appointed to Thomas Nelson Community College Board

Two new members have been appointed to the Thomas Nelson Community College Board. Joining the Board as a new representative for James City County is Ms. Carol Scheid and Mr. Christopher Stuart who will serve as a representative for the City of Hampton.

Ms. Scheid brings 25 years of experience in academic lay governance to TNCC having served as an associate secretary for Cleveland, Ohio’s Cuyahoga Community College Board of Trustees. Since retiring to Williamsburg in 2005 with her spouse, she currently volunteers for the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation and the Muscarelle Museum of Art at the College of William & Mary. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from the University of Cincinnati and a Master’s Degree from Xavier University at Cincinnati.

Father Ralph E. Haines III Appointed to Thomas Nelson College Board

The Virginia Peninsula – Father Ralph E. Haines, III has been appointed to serve on the Thomas Nelson Community College Board. The College Board, comprised of 14 members from six localities in the Thomas Nelson service area, acts in an advisory capacity to the State Board for Community Colleges and Thomas Nelson President Dr. Charles A. Taylor.

Father Haines is rector of Saint Augustine’s Episcopal Church, Newport News, and serves as secretary of the Diocese of Southern Virginia. Before his ordination to priesthood in 1972, he was Lay Reader in Charge and later Deacon in Charge at Saint Augustine’s. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Richmond and a Master of Divinity Degree from Crozer Seminary at Chester, Pennsylvania.
