TNCC President and Diversity Institute Among 2010 Unity Award Honorees

The Hampton Citizens’ Unity Commission has announced that TNCC President Alvin J. Schexnider and the College’s Institute for Diversity & Inclusion have been named among recipients of the 2010 Unity Awards. The Annual Unity Awards Ceremony recognizes individuals, initiatives, organizations, schools, and businesses that have had a positive impact on racial and cultural diversity for Hampton.

Selected from a record number of nominations which were solicited from the community, the honorees will be recognized at the 2010 Unity Awards Dinner Ceremony on Thursday, May 13 at the Charles Taylor Arts Center in Hampton. Others selected to receive the 2010 Unity Award include Gaylene Kanoyton, Pastor Richard W. Wills Jr. and the Another View program from WHRO TV15.

TNCC Opens New Historic Triangle Campus, Now Preparing for Fall Semester

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) transition to its new Historic Triangle campus in Williamsburg is complete. Located at 4601 Opportunity Way next to Warhill High School, the new campus is open to the public providing services in preparation for the fall semester.

Fall classes are scheduled to begin on August 22 at all TNCC locations including the new campus. New and returning students can register for classes in person at one of three locations — Hampton, Williamsburg and a satellite site in Newport News — or online at www.tncc.edu.

Eight TNCC Students Honored During Nurse Pinning Ceremony

Eight Thomas Nelson Community College Nursing students were acknowledged during a Pinning Ceremony earlier this month in Williamsburg. The students completed an Associate in Applied Science Degree Program in Nursing at the College’s Historic Triangle campus.

A symbolic, but meaningful event, the Pinning Ceremony marked a new facet in the personal and professional lives of the graduating Nursing students, said Mary K. Howard, Nursing Program chair.

Commencement to Celebrate Achievements of TNCC Graduating Class

Thomas Nelson Community College will celebrate its thirty-ninth Annual Commencement Ceremony at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13 at the Hampton Coliseum. More than 1,000 students have applied to graduate during the 2007-2008 academic year. This number includes students who completed their curriculum requirements in the summer 2007, fall 2007 and those who have applied for graduation in spring 2008. Graduating students will receive associate degrees, career studies certificates and diplomas. Some of the graduating students will receive more than one degree or a combination of degree, career studies certificate and/or diploma.

As part of the commencement exercises, Dr. Roseann Runte, President of Old Dominion University will address the graduating class. In addition, the colors will be presented by the Bethel High School JROTC, and music will be provided by the York River Concert Band.

Dr. Roseann Runte to Keynote TNCC Commencement 2008

dr_ruth_oduThomas Nelson Community College will hold its 39th Annual Commencement ceremony on Tuesday, May 13 at 7 p.m. at the Hampton Coliseum. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Roseann Runte, President of Old Dominion University.

About Dr. Runte:
Dr. Runte became president of Old Dominion University on July 1, 2001. She previously served as President of Victoria University, Principal of Glendon College, and President of l’Université Sainte-Anne.

Dr. Runte has remained faithful to her love of students and the classroom, teaching at least one course each year. In addition, she continues to write academic, creative, and editorial pieces.

Pinning Ceremony Scheduled for TNCC First Nursing Class to Complete Program at Historic Triangle

Eight Thomas Nelson Community College students, the first completers of an Associate in Applied Science in Nursing Program from the College’s Historic Triangle campus, will be acknowledged in a Pinning Ceremony Saturday, December 15. Family and friends of the graduating students are invited to attend the 2:00 p.m. ceremony at the Espada Conference Room on the College’s Hampton campus.

A symbolic, but meaningful event, the Pinning Ceremony marks a new facet in the personal and professional lives of the graduating Nursing students, said Mary K. Howard, chair of the Nursing Department. The ceremony also symbolizes the students’ commitment to the profession. During the ceremony, the nurses will recite the Nightingale Pledge, named after nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale, as they promise to practice their profession faithfully, aid the physicians in their work, and devote themselves to the welfare of those committed to their care.
