John T. Dever Selected to Become the Next President of Thomas Nelson Community College

Glenn DuBois, chancellor of Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS) announced today that Dr. John T. Dever will become the president of Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) at the beginning of October.

Dever’s career as a community college educator began in the English department of Thomas Nelson in 1975. He has worked at Blue Ridge Community College and Tidewater Community College. He is currently the Executive Vice President of Academic and Student Services at Northern Virginia Community College.

“John Dever began his career at Thomas Nelson Community College with a lot of energy, excitement and engagement in the college’s campus life,” said DuBois. “Returning to Thomas Nelson, as the college’s new president, completes the circle for this hard-working and deeply respected community college leader. I’m excited for both John and the college.”

TNCC Board to Meet June 29

The Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) Board will meet Wednesday, June 29 at 12:00 p.m. in the College Board Room, Moore Hall, on the Hampton campus.

The Board will convene in closed session in accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, §2.2-3711.A to discuss specific personnel matters of the College.

The general Board meeting is open to the public in accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.

 

TNCC Board Hosts Annual Reception/Dinner June 22

The Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) Board will convene in executive session on Wednesday, June 22 at Schelsinger’s Chophouse in Newport News at 5:00 p.m. The Board’s annual invitation-only reception/dinner follows at 6:00 p.m.

In accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, the Board will meet in closed session to discuss specific personnel matters of the College.

42nd Commencement Takes Place May 14

HAMPTON, Va. -– Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) 42nd Commencement Ceremony takes place Saturday, May 14 at 10 a.m. at the Hampton University Convocation Center. Roughly 1,231 students applied to graduate during the 2010-2011 academic year. That figure includes students who completed curriculum requirements in summer 2010, fall 2010 and those who applied for graduation in spring 2011.

Graduating students will receive associate degrees and career studies certificates. Some will receive more than one degree, and/or a combination of awards. The College expects to award approximately 1,615 credentials for the 2010-2011 academic year, according to the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness.

The Thomas Nelson Community College Board will meet on Wednesday, April 27 at 5:45 p.m. on the Hampton campus in the College Board Room, Moore Hall.

Convening earlier at 4:45 p.m. are the Financial and Municipal Liaison Committee in Harrison Hall, Room 3, and the Curriculum, Instruction and Student Services Committee in Room 9. The Board will meet in closed session in accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, §2.2-3711. A to discuss specific personnel matters of the College. The general Board meeting is open to the public in accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.

HAMPTON, Va. – The Thomas Nelson Community College Board will meet on Wednesday, January 26 at 5:45  p.m. in the College Board Room, Moore Hall on the Hampton campus. Dr. Glenn DuBois, Chancellor of Virginia’s Community Colleges, is scheduled to address the Board.

This session is in lieu of the College Board’s February meeting. Committee meetings scheduled include the Financial and Municipal Liaison Committee at 4:45 p.m. in Room 3, Harrison Hall, and the Curriculum, Instruction and Student Services Committee at 5:15 p.m. in Room 9, Harrison Hall.
