TNCC to Recognize Local, State Leaders During May 15 Commencement

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will recognize several government officials and community members for their contributions in education and public service during its 41st commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hampton University Convocation Center. TNCC President Alvin J. Schexnider will present several new awards, including the Thomas Nelson Medallion and the Dana B. Hamel Award. The President will also present an Honorary Associate Degree to a local business/industry leader and the annual Distinguished Alumni Award.

TNCC Announces Speaker for May 15 Commencement

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will celebrate its 41st commencement ceremony Saturday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hampton University Convocation Center.

The Commencement speaker is Mrs. Thomasina R. Wright, a Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding executive and TNCC alumna. One of the two highest ranking African American women at Northrop Grumman’s Newport News location, Mrs. Wright is Trade Director of the Aircraft Carriers Program.

Two TNCC Graduates Receive High Honors

Thomas Nelson Community College named graduating students Matthew Paul Faubion and Sandra Joy Brooks as recipients of 2008-2009 President‘s and Vice President’s Awards, respectively. The College presents the awards during commencement each spring in acknowledgment of students’ exceptional academic performance. Both recipients are graduating summa cum laude with 4.0 grade point averages.

Criteria for the awards include attaining the highest cumulative grade point average (GPA), completing at least 60 semester hours of course work and receiving an Associate’s Degree for the current year, among other criteria.

TNCC Celebrates 40th Commencement Ceremony May 15

Thomas Nelson Community College will celebrate its 40th Commencement Ceremony at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15 at the Hampton University Convocation Center. More than 1,177 students have applied to graduate during the 2008-2009 academic year. This number includes students who completed their curriculum requirements in the summer 2008, fall 2008 and those who have applied for graduation in spring 2009. Graduating students will receive associate degrees, career studies certificates and diplomas. Some of the graduating students will receive more than one degree or a combination of degree, career studies certificate and/or diploma.

As part of the commencement exercises, Mr. W. Taylor Reveley III, President of the College of William and Mary, will address the graduating class. In addition, the colors will be presented by the Bethel High School JROTC, and music will be provided by the York River Concert Band.

Thomas Nelson Community College will celebrate its thirty-ninth Annual Commencement Ceremony at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13 at the Hampton Coliseum. More than 1,000 students have applied to graduate during the 2007-2008 academic year. This number includes students who completed their curriculum requirements in the summer 2007, fall 2007 and those who have applied for graduation in spring 2008. Graduating students will receive associate degrees, career studies certificates and diplomas. Some of the graduating students will receive more than one degree or a combination of degree, career studies certificate and/or diploma.

As part of the commencement exercises, Dr. Roseann Runte, President of Old Dominion University will address the graduating class. In addition, the colors will be presented by the Bethel High School JROTC, and music will be provided by the York River Concert Band.

Dr. Roseann Runte to Keynote TNCC Commencement 2008

dr_ruth_oduThomas Nelson Community College will hold its 39th Annual Commencement ceremony on Tuesday, May 13 at 7 p.m. at the Hampton Coliseum. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Roseann Runte, President of Old Dominion University.

About Dr. Runte:
Dr. Runte became president of Old Dominion University on July 1, 2001. She previously served as President of Victoria University, Principal of Glendon College, and President of l’Université Sainte-Anne.

Dr. Runte has remained faithful to her love of students and the classroom, teaching at least one course each year. In addition, she continues to write academic, creative, and editorial pieces.
