Thomas Nelson Community College Shines at VCCA Excellence in Communications Competition

The Office of Public Relations, Marketing and Special Events at Thomas Nelson Community College excelled this year at the Virginia Community College Association (VCCA) Excellence in Communications Competition winning awards for several of its marketing and promotional materials. The College received the first place award in the billboards and signage category; second place for the E-Flagstaff, the College’s internal weekly electronic newsletter; and second place in the 3D objects category for its Spring into the Future seed packets distributed at the College’s spring open house.

The College also received an honorable mention for its SpaceTEC brochure designed by Sherril Schmitz of Déjà vu Design, Inc. under the direction of Pat Taylor, Dean of Mathematics, Engineering and Technologies.

VCCA Excellence in Communications Awards 2006

This year’s VCCA Excellence in Communications Awards competition was fierce. The PR Commission received a total of 191 entries from 17 colleges and the VCCS.

The Public Relations and Marketing team at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Maryland judged this year’s competition. The PR and Marketing group at AACC consists of nine team members – three writers, three graphic artists, an assistant director, a director and an administrative specialist. The team was chosen to judge the competition because of their knowledge of the challenges of marketing community colleges and the group’s diverse backgrounds in public relations, marketing, writing, photography and graphic design.
