Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will host Community Health Day on Thursday, September 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the Hampton campus in the Espada Room, Moore Hall. Sponsored by TNCC’s Division of Science, Engineering and Technology and its Red Cross Club, the event will include personal health screenings, blood typing, bone marrow donor registration, a Red Cross blood drive and a one-mile fun run/walk. “The idea behind Community Health Day is to create a collaborative opportunity for service learning about all facets of health for the TNCC community, said Biology Professor Dr. Ann S. Evans.
During the personal health screenings, students, faculty and staff can receive information about their height, weight and body mass index. An interactive blood pressure station will allow participants to hear their heart beat and pulse rate assisted by students in TNCC’s Nursing and Phlebotomy programs. The event will also include bone marrow donor registration conducted by the Be The Match Registry, a program of the National Marrow Donor Program.
