TNCC’s September 27 Community Health Day Promotes Total Wellbeing

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will host Community Health Day on Thursday, September 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the Hampton campus in the Espada Room, Moore Hall. Sponsored by TNCC’s Division of Science, Engineering and Technology and its Red Cross Club, the event will include personal health screenings, blood typing, bone marrow donor registration, a Red Cross blood drive and a one-mile fun run/walk.  “The idea behind Community Health Day is to create a collaborative opportunity for service learning about all facets of health for the TNCC community, said Biology Professor Dr. Ann S. Evans.

During the personal health screenings, students, faculty and staff can receive information about their height, weight and body mass index. An interactive blood pressure station will allow participants to hear their heart beat and pulse rate assisted by students in TNCC’s Nursing and Phlebotomy programs. The event will also include bone marrow donor registration conducted by the Be The Match Registry, a program of the National Marrow Donor Program.


TNCC Hosts 4th Annual Car Show September 15

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will hold its 4th Annual Car Show Saturday, September 15 on the Hampton campus. The event is open to the public with registration from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. Sponsored by TNCC’s Educational Foundation in conjunction with Dominion Virginia Power , Old Point Bank and Suntrust Bank, among others, the car show is a fundraiser to benefit TNCC’s Automotive Technology Training Program.

The event will showcase 40 classes of cars and motorcycles, including Chevrolet, Chrysler and Ford classic and antique cars and trucks, tuners and late model muscle cars. An awards ceremony takes place at 1 p.m. with first- and second-place trophies presented in each class as well as a President’s Award, Sponsor trophies, Club Participation trophy and TNCC Alumni trophy.

This is an invitation-only social event during which no business will be conducted. Further, no committee meetings will be held this month.

TNCC Honored Local Citizens During 43rd Commencement

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) presented the Thomas Nelson Medallion, Dana B. Hamel Award and Distinguished Alumni Award during its 43rd commencement ceremony on Wednesday, May 16 at the Hampton University Convocation Center. The awards honor citizens who champion higher education and public service.

The Thomas Nelson Medallion honors citizens who exemplify the spirit and highest ideals of Thomas Nelson – patriot, soldier-statesman and governor. This year’s recipient is the Honorable Melanie Rapp Beale, a former Virginia delegate and past president of the TNCC Educational Foundation.


TNCC Board Welcomes New James City County Representative

The Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) Board recently welcomed community leader Bruce C. Goodson as a new representative for James City County. The TNCC Board consists of 14 members from six localities in the College’s service area and acts in an advisory capacity to the State Board for Community Colleges and the TNCC President.

Goodson has served 12 years on the James City County Board of Supervisors and is currently Vice Chairman. He is also President of the Diamond/Goodson Equipment Corporation of Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia and was a charter member of the Greater Peninsula Workforce Development Consortium leading efforts to create the Peninsula Worklink One Stop Career Centers.
