Students, faculty and staff can join Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) Psychology department on Tuesday, October 9 when conflict resolution expert Dr. Richard E. Rubenstein brings an informative discussion, “Transforming Destructive Conflicts: Five Key Steps toward Positive Peace,” to the Hampton campus. A professor of Conflict Resolution and Public Affairs at George Mason University, Dr. Rubenstein will be available 4:30-6:00 p.m. in Templin Hall’s upstairs gallery for a meet and greet session. The presentation follows at 6:30 p.m. in the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium.

Dr. Rubenstein will explore the assertion that the most destructive conflicts are those generated by social and political structures that prevent people from satisfying their basic human needs. He notes that people must illuminate the connections between social institutions and psychology, thus eliminating or altering both internal and external conditions including considering how current American institutions advance or hinder peace.
