TNCC Receives Environmental Design Certification for Recent Renovation

Thomas Nelson Community College received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Renovation Certification for its recent renovation of the Hampton III building. LEED certification indicates that a structure was built with special attention to human and environmental health with concentration in several areas, including sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. TNCC is the first within Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS) to earn the certification, and the College exceeded the rating system’s requirements. . “It shows that we care about saving energy and environmental concerns,” said Mark Kramer, TNCC Director of Facilities, Planning and Capital Outlay.
