Cyber-attacks are on the rise. To support local businesses and government officials as they develop strategies to counter threats, Thomas Nelson Community College Workforce Development (TNCC-WD) will host a free Cyber Security Workshop on Thursday, February 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Held at the Discovery Center for Economic and Workforce Development, located at 5308 Discovery Park Boulevard, Suite 102 in Williamsburg, the workshop is open to all business and government professionals.
This workshop is part of TNCC-WD’s plans to expand its cyber security programs to collaborate with Internet security firms and train new cyber security professionals to meet new National Security Administration standards. “By promoting education and research in cyber security, we are addressing two key issues facing our region today: the lack of people trained in this field, and the fact that local businesses and municipalities may not have sufficient knowledge to meet the increasing challenges they face in this area,“ says William “Bud” Barnett, Director of Professional and Continuing Education of TNCC’s Workforce Development.

Thomas Nelson Community College Workforce Development (TNCC-WD) is now offering education in one of today’s fastest growing career fields: cyber security. The College recently received grants from Virginia’s Community College System to implement cyber security training across the Peninsula.
The grants give TNCC the resources to collaborate with Internet security firms to train new cyber security professionals. Participants will obtain the expertise necessary to reduce vulnerability in their information infrastructures, as well as to meet new National Security Administration standards.
