Thomas Nelson Community College officials continue to fast track their planned dental hygiene program toward starting in August of 2010. “We’re in the process of hiring a director now,” said Richard Fleming, TNCC vice president for academic affairs.

Tentative plans called for the director to be hired by November and for that person to start working in March. Those attending professor Cece Wheeler’s multimedia design class Thursday tried it for the first time, welcoming a giant new innovation to the computer arts department, which Wheeler heads.

Taking college-level courses, on campus or at a high school, gives students a head start.

The Daily Press

If getting a jump start on college courses doesn’t appeal to high school students, it’s possible the reduced price grabs their parents’ attention.

Those two selling points have made a program called dual enrollment increasingly popular at Thomas Nelson Community College. It allows students to take college-level courses either in high school or on campus, and to potentially earn both high school and college credit.
