Several Dental Hygiene students were the stars of the show when Steve Maylone, an architectural photographer of Denver, Colorado, was on site at the Historic Triangle campus to photograph the Dental Hygiene Clinic for Moseley Architects of Virginia Beach.

The firm designed the Historic Triangle campus building.

Request for Public Comment on TNCC’s new Dental Hygiene Program

The Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) is requesting third-party comments prior to its initial dental hygiene program accreditation visit to Thomas Nelson Community College on March 9, 2010. Third-party comments may come from TNCC students, faculty, staff as well as the general public.

Comments must pertain only to the standards for the dental hygiene program and policies and procedures used in the Commission’s accreditation process.


New Director of Dental Hygiene Program Joins TNCC’s Historic Triangle Campus

Dr. Harold J. Marioneaux, Jr. has been named the Director of the Dental Hygiene Program of Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) Historic Triangle campus. Prior to joining TNCC, Dr. Marioneaux served as the President of AP Max, LLC, a company that monitors and tracks students to improve academic and standardized test performance and decrease dropout rates through the use of daily data analysis.

Dr. Marioneaux  served as Dean in the School of Science at Hampton University from 2001-2006.  Under his leadership, he supervised all the research projects conducted in the School of Science which included a $101 million NASA grant.  The grant covered seven years and marks the first time NASA has allowed an HBCU to be the practical investigator on a satellite mission.  He also coordinated school-wide strategic and long-range planning activities for Hampton University. Prior to his role at Hampton University, Dr. Marioneaux was on the faculty of the Dental Hygiene Program at Old Dominion University.  He is also a former director of the Norfolk State University DNIMAS Program, an honors program for math and science students.


TNCC pushes for 2010 startup date for dental hygiene program

Thomas Nelson Community College officials continue to fast track their planned dental hygiene program toward starting in August of 2010. “We’re in the process of hiring a director now,” said Richard Fleming, TNCC vice president for academic affairs.

Tentative plans called for the director to be hired by November and for that person to start working in March. But the search had to be reopened. “The committee has been formed, and will start getting together to review applications,” Fleming said. “We hope to have somebody on by February, but more likely it will be March.
