TNCC Instructor Joins Committee to Create Professional Organization for Geoscience Educators

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) adjunct Geology instructor Lynsey LeMay is among 10 geoscience educators on an committee to establish a professional organization for geoscience instructors at two-year colleges. The new organization will be affiliated with the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT), a group created to enhance formal and informal earth science education for K-12 students and students at colleges and universities.
The group will provide special support for geoscience faculty at two-year colleges, promote opportunities to expand professional development, and build an online portal for 2YC geoscience educators. Additionally, it will establish best practices for geoscience education at two-year colleges and develop programs that will improve student learning and retention for diverse populations.

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) Geology students didn’t just read about geological concepts during the summer session. They explored the expansive terrain of Montana to learn during a new field geology course.
TNCC Geology Instructor and Department Head Peter Berquist joined Assistant Professor Callan Bentley from Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) in Annandale to facilitate the July 5-18 field class. “Montana is a great place to go just because of the diversity in geology,” Berquist said.
