TNCC Hosts Annual Open House in Hampton, Williamsburg in April

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will host its 2013 Open House this spring with activities taking place Friday, April 19 on the Hampton campus and Friday, April 26 at the Historic Triangle campus in Williamsburg. Activities run 2-5 p.m. both days giving attendees an overview of TNCC’s admissions process, available degree programs and options for transfer to four-year colleges and universities.

The free event will also focus on financial aid, scholarships and transfer agreements with four-year colleges. TNCC staff members will be on hand to share details about available student activities such as clubs, sports and more. Prospective students and their families will get an opportunity to tour the campus they visit and talk with currently enrolled students.

The New Hampton III Building

The Hampton III Building on the Hampton Campus of Thomas Nelson Community College was recently renovated. Included in this overhaul were new student lounges, classrooms, labs and administrative offices.

Additionally the project was awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Renovation Certification.

Thomas Nelson Community College received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Renovation Certification for its recent renovation of the Hampton III building. LEED certification indicates that a structure was built with special attention to human and environmental health with concentration in several areas, including sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. TNCC is the first within Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS) to earn the certification, and the College exceeded the rating system’s requirements. . “It shows that we care about saving energy and environmental concerns,” said Mark Kramer, TNCC Director of Facilities, Planning and Capital Outlay.

TNCC’s Hampton Campus Gets Temporary HRT Bus Stop July 9

Beginning Monday, July 9, a temporary Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) bus stop will be located on Thomas Nelson Drive as replacement for the bus stop shelter and transfer point near Hastings Hall on Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) Hampton campus.

The temporary bus stop will be for drop off and pick up only during the construction of a new HRT bus stop and transfer point in the parking lot adjacent to Hastings Hall. HRT signage will mark the temporary bus stop and the parking lot will be closed during the project.

College officials said construction will last roughly six weeks. Designed with safety in mind, the new HRT bus stop and transfer point will include a dedicated walkway with lighting for evening customers and three shelters to protect patrons from the elements.

TNCC Joins Remembrance Day National Roll Call During its Veterans Day Observance

Thomas Nelson Community College will host a Veterans Day observance on Friday, Nov. 11 on the Hampton campus. During the observance, TNCC joins a Remembrance Day National Roll Call honoring the sacrifices of U.S. service members over the past decade.

Following an 8:30 a.m. opening ceremony, volunteers from TNCC and the community will begin reading the names of more than 6,000 fallen service members at 9 a.m. The College will observe a one-minute moment of silence at 2 p.m. simultaneously with colleges, universities, and other entities nationwide participating in this Remembrance Day National Roll Call. The roll call will last throughout the day until all of the names are read.

Legendary Folksinger Mike Seeger to Perform at Thomas Nelson Community College

THE VIRGINIA PENINSULA – Legendary folksinger Mike Seeger will be performing at the Mary T. Christian Auditorium on the Hampton campus of Thomas Nelson Community College on Saturday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students and seniors and $13 for the general public.

Mike Seeger, has devoted his life to singing, playing and documenting Music from True Vine—the home music made by American southerners before the media age. Music from True Vine grows out of hundreds of years of British traditions that blended in our country with equally ancient African traditions to produce songs and sounds that are unique to the United States.
