October 10 Presentation Spotlights Three Healthcare Careers

Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) Health Department invites TNCC students interested in healthcare careers to an informative presentation by Riverside School of Health Careers. Set for Wednesday, October 10 at 5 p.m. on the Hampton campus in Moore Hall’s Espada Room, the presentation will highlight three careers — radiology technician, surgical technician and physical therapy.
The two-hour session will include a brief overview of each educational program and professionals in the three featured fields will discuss their career experiences and address students’ questions. The presentation will conclude with an overview of the job shadowing program Riverside School of Health Careers provides. TNCC Selects Riverside Health System to Receive 2010 Chancellor’s Award for Leadership in Philanthropy

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) selected Riverside Health System for the 2010 Chancellor’s Award for Leadership in Philanthropy in acknowledgment of Riverside’s exceptional contributions to TNCC. The award was presented Tuesday, April 20 during a luncheon ceremony at the Country Club of Virginia.
The Chancellor’s Award for Leadership in Philanthropy is hosted by the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education (VFCCE) to honor the leading philanthropists from each of Virginia’s 23 community colleges as well as the system’s statewide foundation. This marks the fifth year the awards have been given.
Williamsburg Community Health Foundation Awards Grant to TNCC to Expand Nursing Program

The Williamsburg Community Health Foundation has awarded a $151,000 grant totheThomas Nelson Community College Educational Foundationto expandTNCC’s Nursing program at theHistoric Triangle campus and begin graduating qualified nurses as soon as possible.
The grant ? combined with funds from TNCC for a project totaling $249,500 ? will make it possible for the nursing program to address a community-identified shortage of qualified nurses within various health care agencies serving the Greater Williamsburg area. Grant funds will cover some personnel costs as well as the equipment necessary for state-of-the-art instruction and practical training in a teaching laboratory setting at the Historic Triangle Campus located in theBusch Corporate Center.
