Caregivers need skills and resources to support a chronically ill, disabled or aged family member or friend, while managing family, finances and life. To better equip caregivers on the Peninsula, a Family Caregivers class will be held April 16, 23 and 30 from 1-4 p.m. at the Thomas Nelson Community College Historic Triangle Campus, Allied Health Lab, room 307.

More than 65 million Americans are providing care for a chronically ill, disabled or aged family member or friend during any given year. The three-hour caregiver class provides hands-on practical training. The training will teach participants how to maintain a safe and comfortable home, how to keep track of various medications, training with moving your loved one, resources for additional assistance and much more.

Financial assistance is available. Respite care for loved ones is available through Comfort Keepers and Williamsburg Faith in Action.

The cost for all three classes is $35 and includes the American Red Cross Family Caregiver Manual and DVD, and practice supplies.

To register or for additional information call (757) 825-2767.

This project is a collaboration of Thomas Nelson Workforce Development, Senior Services Coalition, the Riverside Center for Excellence in Aging, Sentara Home Care, Comfort Keepers, and Colonial Heritage Community Foundation.

Funding support has been provided by James City County, Greenfield Senior Living and The Pavilion at Williamsburg Place.
