TNCC Faculty Selected to Participate in National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Seminars

Virginia Peninsula – Thomas Nelson Community College faculty members Dr. Victor Thompson, Professor of English and Dr. Ronald Goldberg, Professor of History have been selected to participate in the National Endowment for the Humanities Seminars and Institutes for College and University Teachers. Thompson’s seminar, which will be held in July in Concord, Massachusetts will focus on the writers of the Transcendental movement before the Civil War. Goldberg’s seminar to be held in June in Dearborn, Michigan will study the role of Henry Ford and the rise of the auto industry.

Thompson, who has been teaching American Literature at Thomas Nelson Community College for more than 30 years will incorporate the American counter culture into his syllabus as he studies writers such as Margaret Fuller or the Peabody Sisters and their impact on social action throughout the world. Thompson also plans to develop a six-credit course – three in English and three in Humanities – to be offered to students in the Honors Program. Goldberg will also add to his Survey of American History syllabus the impact industrialist Henry Ford had with the invention of the assembly line for automobile manufacturing.
