To meet the demand for skilled workers in the field of hospitality, Thomas Nelson Community College will be offering four new Career Studies Certificate programs in Hospitality Management, Food Service Hospitality, Recreation and Parks Management and Lodging Management. The career studies certificate programs have been designed for individuals who may be interested in entering the hospitality field or for those who are currently working in the hospitality industry but who are seeking to advance their careers. Classes will be offered at the Hampton and the Historic Triangle campuses.
Employment projections from the U.S. Department of Labor indicate that leisure and hospitality employment will increase 17.7 percent across the United States in the 2004-14 timeframe (http://www.bls.gov/iag/leisurehosp.htm). According to the Virginia Employment Commission, the growth in Virginia during the same period of time will be 21.5 percent (http://velma.virtuallmi.com).
