TNCC-WD Offering New Training for Local Businesses in March

Thomas Nelson Community College Workforce Development is offering the following new training programs for businesses and their employees in March.
- Ethical Hacking – March 12- April 18, Tuesdays and Thursdays (6-10 p.m.) – Designed for IT professionals, this training will enhance workers’ abilities to recognize weaknesses and vulnerabilities in target systems and use the same knowledge and tools as malicious hackers to protect their business from attacks. To register, call 757-825-2937. $2000. This course is offered at the Peninsula Workforce Development Center at 600 Butler Farm Road in Hampton.
- OSHA Training – Offered at a TNCC location or at a client’s location, this 10-hour course will cover general hazards as well as hazards communications. To register or schedule a class, call 757-865-3122. $250.

Blackboard Unavailable May 11-14 Due to Upgrades

Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS) has scheduled upgrades to Blackboard from version 9.0 to 9.1. Blackboard will be unavailable on Friday, May 11 from 8:00 a.m. through Sunday, May 13 at 11:30 p.m. Blackboard will be available at the completion of the upgrade.

TNCC Names New Director of Information Technology

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) has selected a longtime telecommunications professional to lead its Department of Information Technology. Wayne Davis Sr. assumed the Director of Information Technology position on July 10 having served 13 years as TNCC’s Network Services Manager.
Davis joined the College in 1989 working in several capacities within Information Technology including Programmer Analyst, Electronic Virginia Security Officer and alternate Information Security Officer. In his previous position, Davis supervised a 12-member staff and built a $1.7 million technology budget for telecommunications operations throughout TNCC.

Thomas Nelson Community College President Charles A. Taylor has announced the addition of two administrators to the College’s executive leadership team. Mr. Charles A. Nurnberger has been named Vice President for Finance and Administration. Ms. Catherine L. Szpindor is the new Vice President for Information Technology. “As we continue to grow, the strong leadership and expertise of these highly qualified professionals in finance and administration and information technology will enable the College to achieve our institutional goals,” said Dr. Taylor.
