TNCC to Introduce New Developmental Math Model, Spring 2012

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will introduce a new course model for developmental math students during the spring 2012 semester. The redesign is part of a Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS) initiative to reduce the overall need for developmental education, reduce students’ time in developmental courses to one academic year and increase the number of developmental education students graduating or transferring in four years from one in four students (25 percent) to at least one in three students (33 percent). TNCC faculty Elena Byrd, Theresa Nystrom, Libby Arnesen, Mary Dubbe and Steven Wells were directly involved with the VCCS’s redesign efforts. They have been assisted with campus implementation planning by Duane Nestor, Rudy Schwab, Cathy Hoffmaster, and Sandie Dashiell.
